Back in the day (1999), this was the hardware setup used to run all of Google. The scary thing for me is that this is what the server setup at one of my former employers’ looked like. And that was since 1999. Hell it was as late as 2002. And the servers didn’t have that much RAM. We did have a couple of PIII “servers” though. You know the kind. Joe is leaving so we’ll convert his desktop into a server. A 450mhz PIII with 256MB of RAM is more than enough to run two instances of SQL Server 2000. How do you performance test against that?
